eMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE TO MAKE POSITIVE FINANCIAL CHOICES

The SMART$ trial launched in July 2020 and toured through to October, performing to over 4,500 Year Ten students. With delays caused by lockdown, we were still able to visit 25 schools from Auckland to Otago.

Participants complete pre and post questionaires enabling evaluation of the impact of our programme on student knowledge, awareness and intention.

Feedback from schools this year

“The Life Education Trust’s Smart$ presentation is both entertaining and informative.  The format of being an interactive play enables the audience to develop a better understanding of Credit Cards & Interest Rates, Mortgages, Kiwi Saver and After Pay.  This type of financial literacy is very relevant for today’s young people.” - Campbell Howlett, Deputy Rector, Lindisfarne College

“I was impressed with the theatre-in-education SMART$ performance and the introduction to important concepts like credit cards, KiwiSaver and the pitfalls of deferred payment schemes, which provided valuable learning for our students. I liked the way role play was used to get the message across, it made it simple and clear for students.” - Deon van Deventer, Head of Department for PE and Health at Rathkeale College

“The performance was polished and quite entertaining. I thought the realistic situations used to explain important money matters was relevant and engaged the students well. Interaction with the audience in between each ‘scene’ reinforced the ideas perfectly.” – Feedback from a session in the Hawke’s Bay
